Festivals and Traditions
You like festivals? Traditions and regular regional festivals are a big issue in Tönisvorst. The best part: Our activities always occur in twin packs – each city district has its very own way of celebrating. Anyone wanting to experience the depiction of the St. Martin scene or the carnival parade more than once has plenty of opportunity here. Different institutions keep our traditions alive: We have six marksmen’s societies, eight carnival societies and three St. Martin committees. In order to provide you with an overview of what all is being celebrated here in Tönisvorst throughout the course of a year, we have listed the most significant occasions below. For more information regarding upcoming events, please consult the event calendar (link setzen).
- around January 6th for Epiphany, the "star singers" go through town collecting donations for the poor; an occasion which is also celebrated with appropriate coffees offered by various institutions such as for example the Kolping Family.
- Gotthardus Procession for Easter.
- Setting-up of the Vorst May Tree along with the popular May Ball along with various festive activities in the various bars and restaurants in town.
- Marksmen’s Festival in May (see also "Marksmen’s Societies")
- St. Martin Celebration in November
