In many cities, chain stores have rendered the inner cities exchangeable. In Tönisvorst however, long-established businesses mingled with smart restaurants provide a pleasing flair. Aside from the pedestrian zone, main shopping streets in the city district St. Tönis include the Hochstrasse, Marktstrasse, Alter Markt, Antoniusstrasse, Wirichs Jätzke, Alter Graben and Neuer Markt as well as the Krefelder and the Willicher Strasse. In Vorst, the main shopping areas are also in a traffic-reduced zone, ranging from the Seulenstrasse over the Marktstrasse, Clevenstrasse and Kuhstrasse. For more details, please contact the business development association in Vorst ("Vorst aktiv e.V.").

Love farmer’s markets? there are farmer’s markets in both city districts each Thursday, in St. Tönis starting at about 7:30 a.m. until noon on the Rathausplatz and in Vorst from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on the market square in front of the church.

Even more: You can buy harvest-fresh fruits and vegetables as well as meat specialties – for example sausage without milk protein – directly from the respective farmers. for more information, the City has published a brochure which is available simply by calling 02151/999-174 or sending an e-mail.

Another specialty is the modern supermarket, the Future Store by real, located in the retail and commercial park Höhenhöfe. The latter offers a mixture of businesses and brands of renowned trade stores.
